  • What is Virtual Waitaki?

    Virtual Waitaki is a virtual reality  portal to locations around the Waitaki District that allows businesses to take shanpshot photos to use in their own websites..

  • How can I take snapshot photos?
    1. Vistit a location page and scroll down to the VR tour.
    2. Click on the full screen symbol on the VR menu.
    3. In the bottom right of the tour click on the round circle with the dots to bring up the scene menu. Select a scene
    4. Once the scene has loaded, look click on the camera icon in the bottom left. Your camera viewfinder should popup. 
    5. On the right of the screen you should see frame types, select the frame you would like to use. This will determine the ratio of the width and height of your snapshot photo.
    6. Move around and zoom in/out to frame your shot. You can also right click and select a view type such as Little Planet. Different view types will change the look of the final image, sometimes quite considerably.
    7. Once you have lined up your shot, click the camera button in the lower center of the screen
    8. Hey Presto! You've taken a snapshot image in Virual Reality!
    9. Select an option for sharing your photo via social media or downloading to your device.
  • What can I use the snapshot photos for?

    You can use them for anything you wish as long as the final product is free to access or use.

  • Can I sell the snapshot images?

    All the content on this website (unless otherwise specified) is released under a Creative Commons 4.0, Share and Share Alike Licence. This means that any content created from this website, which is free to access and use, must be shared in the same way.

  • How do I embed a Virtual Tour into my website?

    Two options are available for obtaining the code to embed a tour into your own website. 

    1. Below each tour on a location page you will see the code needed to embed a tour into your own website. Simply copy the code and paste into your html.
    2. If you wish to show a particular scene view or zoom level then this can be done by copying the code via the social share button. Simply go to a scene then look at the direction you wish to share. When pointing in the direction and zoom level you want to use, click on the social share button in the menu. A popup will appear and you can copy the code it contains. Pase this into your html and save.

  • How do I embed a tour in my WIX website?

    1 Follow the instructions on how to obtain the code in the 'How do I embed a Virtual Tour into my website' above.

    2 When editing your Wix page, click on ADD - then select EMBED

    3 Select the HTML IFRAME box

    4 Resize the box to the correct size.

    5 Click the 'ENTER CODE' button.

    6 Paste the code copied in the first step above into the popup box.

    7 Save and view the scene you have just embedded

  • Will more locations be added to your Virtual Tours?

    Yes, more locations are on the way and we hope to add more in the future.

  • What other platforms can I see Virtual Reality scenes on?

    You can view VR imagery from Virtual Waitaki on Facebook where it can be freely shared.

    We will be adding more platforms soon and will notify users via Facebook or on this website.

  • Can I suggest a location to add to the tours?

  • How do I view a scene in Virtual Reality Goggles?

    Simply navigate to this website in your VR browser, choose a location then click on the goggles in the menu bar.

    You can navigate from scene to scene just by looking at one of the navigation arrows.

    If you look down you will see a floating circle. Look at this for 3 seconds to bring up more navigation options.

  • How do I view a scene in Google Cardboard?

    On your smartphone, first select the location you wish to view.

    Once it has loaded click on the VR Goggles in the menu bar to go fullscreen and then place in the Google Cardboard device.

    You can navigate from scene to scene just by looking at one of the navigation arrows.
