Virtual Waitaki is a portal for the world to explore the Waitaki district. In March 2020, the Waitaki District Council created a Support & Stimulus Fund to aid the district’s recovery from COVID-19.
Funding for Virtual Waitaki was allocated from the Economic Resilience portion of this fund so that an online photography portal for local businesses, schools, national and international users could be created to virtually access locations of interest across the district.
One of the main functions of the VR tours is the snapshot function. This allows users to use a virtual camera to take their own photos from the scenes of each location.
They are free to use these images to promote their business as the imagery has been released under a Creative Commons Share and Share Alike licience Check out the ‘How To’ section of the website on the use of this function, along with how to embed the website tours into your own domains.
